Technical Specifications

Nets is written entirely in the Perl programming language, making it portable to any Unix or Windows platform, including Linux, MacOS X, Solaris, FreeBSD, NetBSD, SunOS, AIX, IRIX, SCO Open Server, Digital, HP-UX, and Windows 95/98/NT/2000.

Nets uses the Perl DBI/DBD interface, allowing it to be used with almost any free or commercial SQL database, including Oracle (www.oracle.com) Sybase (www.sybase.com) Microsoft SQL 6.5 and 7.0 (www.microsoft.com) MySQL (www.mysql.org) mSQL (www.hughes.com.au) Postgresql (www.postgresql.org) Informix (www.informix.com) InterBase (www.interbase.com) and others.

Nets uses the Perl TK module for its user interface, allowing its GUI to be used on on Windows or Unix X-Windows display.

Nets is completely written in Object Oriented Perl, making it easy to understand and extend.

Nets includes a standard API for plugin modules. Plugins can be developed by anyone and installed in any Nets system.

The Nets database schema and user interface description are all data driven. This makes it easy to alter the database schema from a plugin or other method.

Nets allows you to customise your database to suit your site-specific needs.

Nets supports icons and images in a variety of formats, including GIF, XBM and XPM. Other formats are supported using optional Tk modules freely available from CPAN (www.cpan.org)
