HtEdit Password Maintenance System

HtEdit is a CGI script that allows a Web site administrator to manage NCSA style access control password lists and group files. It provides a Web page that allows the Web site administrator to:

    • Add new users
    • Change user passwords
    • Change which groups a user is in (optional)
    • Remove users
    • Manage one or more password files
    • Optionally manage one or more group files
    • Optionally email new users with their user name and password
    • Optionally save email address in a log file

HtEdit is lightweight, inexpensive, easy to use and easily customisable to suit your web site. Full source code supplied.

HtEdit can even suggest secure, pronounceable passwords if you wish.

HtEdit is useful if you are using user password access control on your Web site and you want an administrator to be able to interactively add, modify and remove users and passwords from the access control lists with a Web page rather than the tedious htpasswd command line program. You dont need shell logins to control your access lists with HtEdit. NCSA style access control files are used by NCSA, Apache, and Netscape Web servers.

Free updates. Special pricing for unlimited site licenses is available for ISPs with multiple Virtual Web Servers.

    HtEdit Requires:

    • Unix host (Windows NT soon)
    • Perl 5
    • cgi-lib.pl
You will need to insure that they are both installed on your Web server host before installing HtEdit.
